Simulate the Glare Impact of All Common PV Systems

Our simulation tool supports all mounting types — from rooftop to tracker.

PV Glare — an Underestimated Project Risk

Solar module reflections can dazzle like a mirror. This affects residents, drivers, pilots — and ultimately your project.

Approvals at Risk

Many approval processes require evidence on glare impact. An early analysis shows whether your site is critical — before the authority asks or an already built system has to be modified.

Avoid Costly Retrofits

Anti-glare films, changed module tilts, or even dismantling rows: Retrofit measures cost many times more than planning costs. A simulation before construction reveals problems before they become expensive.

Defuse Conflicts Early

Glare from PV modules regularly leads to neighbor complaints. A transparent glare analysis creates clarity early on for residents, municipalities, and authorities — and protects your project reputation.

Traffic & Aviation Safety

PV systems near roads, railways, or airports require special care. Glare can endanger drivers and pilots. Assessments for these use cases are often legally required.

Who is PV-GlareCheck made for?

Whether planning, assessment, or being affected — the software supports everyone who needs to understand glare impact.

Developers & Planners

Fast preliminary glare assessment already in the site and layout phase — before detailed planning and costs arise.

Experts & Assessors

An efficient evaluation tool for reflection and glare-time calculation as a basis for your own professional assessment.

Homeowners

Simulate in advance whether your own rooftop system could dazzle neighbors — and avoid conflicts before they arise.

Affected Residents

Assess a suspected glare from a nearby system in a comprehensible way — as a factual basis for a conversation.

and many more

Energy consultants, municipalities, authorities — wherever the glare impact of PV systems matters.

Everything for a Thorough Glare Analysis

Precise simulation results, professional visualizations, and intelligent filters — all in one application.

Glare Time Heatmap

See at a glance when and how long glare occurs — for every day of the year, for every observation point. The heatmap shows glare times by time of day and date, color-coded by intensity.

Blendzeiten-Heatmap

Reflection Map

All reflection directions visualized on Google Maps. See exactly where PV modules reflect — with color coding by frequency and optional time-point view.

Reflexionskarte

3D Perspective

The equirectangular projection shows PV areas, reflection zones, and the sun path from the observer's perspective. With zoom, sun display, and intensity-coded coloring.

3D-Perspektive

Intelligent Filters

Filter results by intensity threshold, core glare (specular), sun overlap, vertical glare source height, and field of view. All charts update instantly.

Intelligente Filter

The Finished Glare Assessment Report

Interactive online report and PDF export — everything you need for permit applications, traffic authorities, or internal review.

One document for every stakeholder

Clearly structured, traceable, and reviewable — from the project summary down to per-point detail.

  • Summary & compliance check per observation point
  • Heatmap, daily duration, and intensity charts per point
  • Reflection map with ray directions and 3D perspective
  • Topography and obstacle considerations documented
  • PDF export and (Pro) raw data export to Excel

Scientifically sound — fully reviewable

The simulation follows current state-of-the-art. Every value in the report traces back to a physical basis.

Astronomical Sun Position

High-resolution sun-path calculation (azimuth / elevation) per location and timestamp — 1- or 5-minute resolution across the full year.

Reflection Geometry

Reflection direction derived from module geometry, tilt, and azimuth. Each observation point is checked against every module ray — no sampling, full raster.

Beam Spread & Module Profile

Module-specific reflection profiles (beam spread, hot-spot vs. diffuse) — a standard module is pre-configured; custom profiles available in Pro.

Questions we hear a lot

If your question isn't answered here, just contact us: info@pv-glarecheck.com

Is the report accepted by authorities?
Yes. The report documents methodology, data sources, and boundary conditions so it can be submitted as an attachment to building permits or traffic-safety assessments. The methodology follows the relevant guidelines (see the Compliance strip at the top of this page).
How accurate is the simulation?
Sun position is computed astronomically to the minute; module reflection is geometrically exact. The biggest accuracy driver is the module geometry (tilt, azimuth, heights). The Pro plan also supports custom reflection profiles per module.
How long does a simulation take?
For a typical project with 5–20 observation points at standard resolution: 30–120 seconds. Very large projects (100+ points at 1-minute resolution) can take a few minutes.
Which output formats do I get?
Interactive online report (shareable web link) and PDF export are included in both tiers. Pro additionally provides raw-data export to Excel for your own analysis.
Are topography and obstacles taken into account?
Yes. Terrain data is loaded automatically; additional shading objects (buildings, trees, noise barriers) can be added manually in the Pro plan.
How much does it cost?
Free covers simple projects end-to-end — no credit card required. Pro extends functionality and capacity; project packages and tokens can be topped up as needed (see pricing below).
Where is data stored?
All project and simulation data is hosted on EU servers (Hetzner, Falkenstein). We comply with GDPR; details are in the privacy notice.
Can I try GlareCheck without commitment?
Yes — the Free tier is available without a credit card and is enough for a complete simple glare assessment. Just sign up, create a project, and give it a try.
